Here is a news story about an Historical site that has probably effected most of your lives.
I came across this story yesterday and I was floored by the possibilities. Don't get me wrong every now and then there is a story about some new find that is going to save the world from global warming and solve the energy crisis. But there is always some big catch, like in order for it to work all the crops we used to use for food will now have to go towards energy, or in order for the fuel to be effective it needs to be mixed with baby kittens. So I'm not ready to declare this the solution, but it's an interesting idea nonetheless.
The basic idea is a group of scientist have genetically altered bacteria like non pathogenic strains of E. coli, so that when they feed on agricultural waste like wheat straw or wood chips they excrete crude oil. So if this works out it would mean that countries would be able to meet their own crude oil needs by using oil pooping bacteria.
And more importantly, they claim that Oil 2.0 is carbon negative, that is they claim the carbon that will be released is less than the carbon the raw materials have used during their lifespan.

While it sounds like a good idea, I'm willing to bet it will never work unless we considerably cut back on our oil consumption. Just because we found a different way to make it, and it may even be cheaper, doesn't mean we should all hold on to our SUVs, and put our Smart Cars in the Auto Trader. If we really want to give any of this technology a chance it means riding more bike and pooling more cars.
So go to it my Pigeons.
My new commuter bike, the one that was built of various spare, old and random parts has a fresh paint job and is in need of some decals. So take a look at the options and let me know what you think. But please...no mud slinging.
Nathan - Jimson Weed
I first heard of Nathan when Keri McTighe, (vocalist and writer for the band) was inducted into the Winston Churchill Hall of Fame. Garth Happend to be at the induction assembly and told me about this girl who came in a performed using loops, vocals and, if I remember correctly, a theremin. I remember checking some stuff out online and being impressed but nothing really coming of it. Then about a month ago, I was on a little bit of a folk/country binge and I sniped the CD from Garth, and over the last few weeks I've listened to the entire album over 15 times, and that's just at work. I know part of my love for Nathan is the fact that Keri is a WCHS grad, and while she graduated before I got there, I still love to see a fellow Churchillian do well. So I suggest you give 'em a listen, check out their website, or you could even download them on itunes.
After a handful of teasers here and there the real X-file trailer has finally hit the tubes. So all you guys that are watching the mythology episodes right now best hurry up and finish because July 25th is coming up fast.
It's really hard to create a 30 second spot that is interesting or captivating, and if you don't believe me go look at the last few batches of Superbowl commercials (yawwwwn.) But with video on the internet it allows longer commercials that can play out almost like short films (notice I say can play out like short films, there is still a lot of terrible advertising clogging up the tubes), there have been a few that I've seen that I thought were quite clever, but today I stumbled across a series of commercials for Sony's Bravia TV's and quite frankly I was awestruck. These are commercials that are amazing to watch and extremely well done, the only thing more impressive is watching the "making of" videos and seeing the time and effort (and I can only imagine truck loads of money) that goes into them.
Yes I know there are 6 of them, but trust me, it's worth the time to watch all of them, you won't regret it.
They are commercials like no other.
Bouncy Balls
I love seeing the technology that will change our everyday lives, a really good example of that is the future of cars. But with all technology it seems that some people want to waste all kinds of time figuring out how to use technology to make things that nobody wants or needs, and then try to pass it off like they have done something revolutionary. Mean while other people are working on concepts that could really change things for the better, but everyone is too busy fawning over the car that can drive underwater they don't ever see it. Let me demonstrate my point
